WHEN GOD WALKED THE EARTH CHAPTER 27
God saves a young boy from committing suicide

Rajan beckoned to the waiter and shouted drunkenly “give me another drink”
The waiter placed another drink before him and went off to serve another customer.Rajan was approaching a state of frenzy bordering on madness,he knew in his mind that this was the end therefore he was desperately trying to cling to the last threads of his life,the last few days were a vivid canvas of his life---------the memories were so painful that he could nolonger live with them, he must die that was the only way out for him to be rid of the nagging memories
He looked at the people around,everyone was engrossed in himself except the one whose look pierced his heart.He demanded yet another drink,as he picked up the drink he looked at His piercing eyes,then he got up on his unsteady feet and staggered up towards the open window which looked down on the road, he was about to climb the window and jump out ,when God pulled him right back ”leave me alone ”,Rajan shouted breaking free from Him ”I will not allow you to end your life” ,said God in a resolute voice, ”your life is a gift of God and you are not going to end it at your will ,if you have any trouble I am ready to listen to you”.
“when my own parents do not have time for me, then why a stranger will give me his time?”,
“I am no stranger .I know you since your birth ,you can confide in me” ,said God
Rajan felt a strong attraction towards the man standing before him, who was full of kindness and love, he felt a strong attraction towards Him and he decided that this was the man in whom he could confide. God took him to a corner seat and after ordering for him lime juice and soda to bring him out of his drunken stupor God sat down to listen to his story.
“I come from a wealthy family” ,stated Rajan, ”I have every thing ,I lack nothing ,my parents fulfill all my wishes, they would even try to get me the moon, if I so desired, but the only thing they don’t give me is their time, their love ,their attention, I some times don’t see my parents for days on end ” ,he took a sip of lime juice and then continued,” my father is busy making money and my mother is busy squandering it ,I was left to the care of servants who brought me up ,when ever they met me that was rarely they found me quiet and with drawn ,we had nothing in common with each other so I never spoke to them, then suddenely one day my father asked me why I was behaving in such a manner with them.
“since you wont understand there is no use explaining anything to you” ,I flared up.
“that’s enough” ,snapped my father, ”I have given you every thing a person can desire beautiful home ,designer clothes ,swanky car and regular vacation trips abroad isn’t that enough?”.
“these things can never replace understanding and companionship” ,I retorted angrily
“you are just a rebellious teenager” ,said my father in an equally angry tone and left me alone.
To get their attention I joined a gang of unsavory group of boys and girls in college I got into drugs, smoking ,drinking ,cheating ,lying and thieving”
“you did all these things and you were never caught ”,God asked disbelievingly
“no one had the courage to report on us because we had the reputation of being wild” ,replied Rajan ”after the college hours we all would go in our cars to Mudh Islands carrying with us loads of hard drinks and designer drugs,we would hire a shack and go in an orgy of patting,drinking and drugs”,God listened dazed “when we would return late in the night to give ourselves a kick we would rob unwary passengers on deserted roads”,Rajan finished the full glasss and continued,”our modus operandi was simple,we would park our cars on the side of the road with the hoods open,the girls would act as baits,they would stand besides the cars looking helpless,any one who saw them thought that the cars were broken and that they were stranded ,most of the time they stopped to help the girls,as soon the victim would get down from his car,we would all come out of our hiding places we would surround and threaten them and rob them of all their belongings,before leaving we would snatch their car keys so that they wouldn’t drive after us and get us caught, we would use the money and credit cars to buy luxury items”
“”but you said just now that you lacked nothing, you had everything your heart desired then why did you get into thieving?”, asked God
“every one in the group was rich and influential ,but going on a wild path not only gave us a strange type of intoxication which even designer drugs could not give us,and as for me I did all those things to shock my parents so that they would come out of their belief that they had given me every thing and I needed nothing,I wanted them to realize that a child needs parental love,attention and guidance before anything else”,
“and did your parents realize their mistake?”
“no,”.said Rajan”although off and on they received complaints about me they had no time to find out any thing
“and how did you get through your examinations?” .asked God
“I passed every year because every year I purchased the examination papers from a professor in my college
“and the professor never got caught?, asked God
“all are involved in the racket from principal to the peon” ,was Rajan’s reply
“and then what went wrong that prompted you to suddenely end your life?”.
“a month back we were traveling by a local train and we were indulging in eve teasing a sweet looking girl. her brother who was traveling with her ,objected to our behavior and tried to prevent us from molesting her, this enraged us and we pushed the boy out of the running train” ,Rajan covered his face with his hands” and the boy was crushed beyond recognition under its wheels ,it was terrible, very terrible” ,his voice was barely audible
“and then what happened?”.
“we were all arrested on suspicion and out parents used their clout and wealth and we were given the benefit of doubt and released ,but I can not live with the guilt ,the face of the boy does not leave me ,he was the only son and only earning member of the family ,I always see his face frozen in terror as he was being pushed out”
“did you also join others in pushing him out? ”,asked God
“no I didn’t, but I could have stopped others from doing the dastardly deed, but I was so far gone to the very dregs of life that the thought never entered my mind to stop them, I can not live with this guilt I want to die ”,he moaned
“embracing death is a sign of weakness ,you must get over this guilty feeling and start living once again”
“I can not fight neither I have the will to fight, I am too far gone now nobody can bring me back from the edge not even you”
“I can bring you back if you will listen to me: ,said God

Meanwhile the restaurant owner who was a family friend of Rajan’s parents, rang up his father and told him about his suicide attempt ”if it was not for the timely intervention of a kind man who stopped him in the nick of time from jumping out of the window he would be dead by now”,
On getting the news ,both husband and wife rushed to the hotel where the owner was waiting to receive them,he immediately escorted them to where God and their son was seated. Seeing his son safe and sound ,Rajan’s father was over come with emotions, ”my little prince attempted suicide ”,he said in disbelief
“yes I attempted suicide and very soon I will commit suicide because I can not live with my guilt” ,replied Rajan .God invited both of them to be seated” why do you feel you are the cause of the boys death?” ,questioned his mother
“because I was a silent spectator to the dastardly crime ,if I had intervened and stopped them from doing it, the boy would have been alive today ”,said Rajan
His father took his hand in his hand and said quietly, ”my boy you could not have saved him even if you had tried because the boy was a heart patient he suffered a massive heart attack and therefore he fell out of the train, no body threw him out”
“but you never said anything about it to me” ,said Rajan
“what was there to say ”,said his mother, ”you were freed of the charges and that was all we wanted”
“if you had told me this truth I would not have carried the killing guilt in my heart all these days, but you did not have that much time to spare for me” ,Rajan said accusingly
“why do you suppose God put parents on the earth ?”,God asked” if he had not intended the children to have the guidance of a mother and a father he would have the parents lay eggs like hens and other birds, so that once the children were hatched they would walk away leaving them to their devices as the birds do, as parents you have to assume the responsibility of molding your child, you have to instill in him human values of compassion,friendliness,cooperation,peace of mind,joy and a smile that lasts through out his life this can only be achieved if you teach your child how to get anger out of his system,how to handle his emotions,today the youngsters have lost all human values because of lack of direction and therefore they are.going on a path of violence ,violence can be controlled through the breath,breath is the link between body,mind and emotions,breath can be controlled by regular meditation,by meditiating daily one calm ones mind As parents you have to open up the mind and heart of your child and guide him in the cultivation of right attitude towards his life,it’s the duty of a parent to make his child feel that no matter what he does his parents will always keep an open heart and an understanding mind.Every child should be made to feel that he is loved by his parents and that he can approach them and receive understanding and guidance from them”,He stopped and looking directly at his parents then he continued,” but inorder to be ideal parents you must also discipline yourselves,you must set the right example to your child physichally,morally,intellectually and spiritually,you have to cultivate wisdom,patience and understanding and you have to exercise perfect self control when dealing with the child,then only you will be able to fulfill the divine responsibility of looking after your child,The parents are a childs real guru’s they are the ones who guide them and train them and give them the best possible start in life,for this you have to renounce selfishness and self intrest.Giving the childen material things does not end your duty towards him,you have to don the role of a companion,friend,beloved and Guru so that he is able to lead a rewarding life”
Both of his parents looked stricken,”we thoroughly understand what you have explained to us”,said Rajan’s father,”I have always been busy in my work and his mother is a social butterfly but now we are going to change,we always thought that our son is grown up and he will not like our interference in his life,we also knew that he was brilliant because he always stood first in his examinations and we were sure he was going to go places”
“do you know how I stood first in my examinations?”,questioned Rajan
“yes I do,you are intelligent and clever therefore you stood first”,said his father with conviction.God looked at Rajan and said,”no use digging old graves it only gives rise to pain,you should dwell upon the present situation and try to find a solution to your problems.All of them sat in silence thinking how all of them were wrong in dealing with life,if the wise man sitting besides them had not drummed sense into their heads they would have never understood each other”I am sorry dad mum,”Rajan blurted out suddenely”I should not have joined that gang in my college,but I was so unhappy with you both that I wanted to hurt and shock you because I had a feeling you didn’t care for me”,then holding Gods hands in his he continued,”I am thankful to you sir for saving me and counseling me without you I would have been up above the clouds where no one could reach me”.Both his parents flinched on hearing these words,a shudder passed through them”you are perfectly right my child ,God came in the form of this kind man and taught us the true meaning of life”,
