WHEN GOD WALKED THE EARTH CHAPTER 25
God is admitted to a hospital

After Goddess Laxshni left after cleaning up Gods house,God decided to take some rest, as He was about to get into bed,he heard a whimpering at His front door on opening the door He accosted a stray dog completely wet and shivering with cold He picked up the shivering dog,dried him and patted him on the back,the dog wagged his tail in gratitude.”I will call you Moti from today you are my companion,you can stay with me”
Moti had not eaten a single morsel of food since so many hours, therefore he was completely famished,he looked around the house and he could not find any thing he could eat,he had an idea,he had seen a shop as he was being dragged by the heavy water currants towards Gods house,the shop was completely empty and all the groceries were floating around in the water,he swam back to the shop,got hold of a loaf of bread and a bag of milk,swam back and laid them at the feet of God who was by now fast asleep.Moti did not touch the food although he felt sick with hunger,he decided that he would only eat when God would give him company.God did not wake up for 24 hours and Moti sensed that some thing was wrong with his master,he started licking Gods feet,but there was no response from Him.Moti felt alarmed,he ran to the house next door and started barking loudly and scratching the door,when the lady of the house opened the door, he caught hold of her saree and dragged her to where God was lying in an unconscious state,the neighbour immediately called an ambulance and God was shifted to a hospital.Goddess laxshmi was alarmed to see God in the hospital,she was besides herself with worry,she cornered Indera and said accusingly”it is due to your carelessness that my lord is sudffering today”
“I repear mother that I am sorry,I will never repeat this blunder again”,replied Indera
“but now how will w help God?,asked the Goddess
“God who helps every body does not need our help,you are being unnecessarily worried mother”.said Indera
“have you forgotten that God is in a human body and because of the body He is suffering”,said the Goddess
“in that case prevail upon Him to return,it is only you mother to whom He will listen,even otherwise He is being sorely missed by all of us,without Him heaven doesnot look the same”
“He will not listen to me,He is enjoying His stay on the earth “,replied the Goddess
“He cannot remain on earth indefinitely”
‘I know.He will come back when He himself decides to leave the earth till then our first priority should be to get Him out of His sufferings”,said the Goddess
“mother why don’t you summon the celestial physician to see Him,he will cure Him in an instant”
“why didn’t I think of this before?”said the Goddess and immediately she summoned Dhanwantrai the physician,he immediately administered a celestial medicine to God and within no time He was as fit as a fiddle.Goddess Laxshmi took a sigh of relief and thanked Dhanwatrai,then turning to God she said, ”you must take care of your body my lord otherwise it will cause you much suffering ,not only yourself ,but I also suffer along with you when I see you in pain” ,said the Goddess

God was welcomed at the door by Moti, on seeing Him ,Moti was so delighted that he started wagging his tail and licking Gods feet. Suddenely Gods eyes fell on the food lying on His bed ,He looked at Moti and patting him said in a kind voice, ”my boy you have not eaten a thing all this time ,come on I will feed you” ,then taking him on his lap God fed him with his own hands.
Moti made the doorstep of the Gods house his sleeping place ,whole day he lay down on the rubber mat placed especially for him by God,he appointed himself the guardian of the house and every visitor had to pass his scrutiny before going inside.Moti just opened one eye and looked at the visitor,if he liked him he closed his eye and went back to sleep and if he did not approve of him he would bark at him without getting up and the poor visitor had to go around and over him to enter the house,but buge it would never.God would laugh and call him the laziest dog in the world,it was only during lunch or dinner that Moti would present himself before God.
“Narain,Narain,”sang Nrada appeaing before God
“chi,chi my lord what a dirty pariah dog you have got,you who can keep the best of pets and you have selected this mongrel for company”,he said making a face
Moti started barking at him to show his displeasure”never go by exterior appearances Nrada,this dog who you call a pariah has saved my life,he has a heart of gold,never again treat him disparagingly “.God rebuked him
“sorry my friend”,Narada said addressing Moti,”I didn’t know you were so close to my lord,anyone whom God loves,I love too,from today I too am your friend,said Narada,
Moti was delighted and for the first time in many days,he got up and gave him his paw accepting his friendship

Alhough Moti hated doing any thing except lying down on the mat but when it came to His masters health and well being,he would forget his laziness,every night he would sleep at his masters feet and every now and then he would get up and look at Him to reassure himself that every thing was well with God,at crack of dawn when the newspaperman and milkman arrived,he would pick them up and place then near his master.
One morning God was sleeping till late and as Moti was waiting for his master to wake up,he opened the newspaper and started looking through its pages.Suddenely his eyes fell on a page where dogs looked like princesses ,there was a picture of a bitch wearing toe rings and sporting a branded t-shirt,she was eating her food from a silver bowl sitting in the lap of her mistress who looked so enchantingly beautiful that if he had been a human he would have given his heart to her.
Jealousy crept up in his heart and unhappiness filled his whole being,at that instant God opened His eyes and greeted him with a smile,instead of waging his tail in response as he did every day,he turned away his face
“whats wrong my friend?”,God asked him in a concerned tone walking up to him when Gods eyes fell upon the open newspaper , immediately it dawned upon Him why Moti looked so crest fallen,taking Moti in His lap,God said”this picture has made you miserable and unhappy isn’t it my friend?this is because you are comparing your life with these dogs,but you are much better off then them,the dogs in the picture are pampered and a spoilt lot,they are soft dogs,when they will come face to face with any difficult situation they will not know how to tackle it and save themselves from the difficult situation,becase all their lives they have lived in protection,in comparison you have lived a tough life,you are a born fighter and you can come out of even the meanest situation,but these dogs are imprisoned in golden cages where they can see nothing except what their owners want,they are loved and adored till they are healthy and useful,but once they become old,sick and useless,they are thrown out on the streets to fend for themselves and then these poor things do not know how to meet the hardships of life,used to a soft life they are incapable of surviving on the streets and soon they fall a victim to disease and death,but Moti you are made of sterner stuff and you can survive in any given situation ,therefore you are much luckier then these dogs,these dogs have to follow the whims and fancies of their masters,but you are your own master,you can do what ever pleases you,now if you have understood what I have explained to you,then get up and drink your milk and then as usual I will take you for the morning walk”

The best time of the day for Moti was when he went with God for his morning walk,he saw so many bitches of different colours,sizes and shapes that he could not take his eyes off them,some of them were realy very beautiful,but he was fond of one English bitch with whom he had fallen madly in love,but her snooty owner would not even allow him to even come within her sight,but today luck shone upon him because the bitch was all alone,seeing her alone Moti walked towards her,seeing the ugly street dog,the bitch was so frightened that she started running wildly and he ran after her .What happened next was a series of unfortunate events—a rushing bus made the bitch jump out of its way only to land into thorny bushes ,her leash got stuck into the thorns and try as she might she could not break herself free, and to make matters worse a pack of ferocious street dogs were slowly closing in upon her, before they could reach her ,Moti jumped into the bushes besides her, he pulled at the leash with all his might and with great difficulty the leash snapped and she was free, she started running once again on her fat legs who could hardly carry her weight ,she resembled a fat dumpling ,she could hardly run far, breathing hard she fell like a brick on the ground, fully exhausted she lay there completely covered in dirt and grime ,but the dogs who had followed in hot pursuit started circling around her body with teeth bared, blood shot eyes and foaming mouths Moti who was running after her soon caught up with the mongrels and bravely fought all of them back, she had never before come across such a situation in her life ,she was thankful to the ugly dog who had saved her from the ferocious mongrels, if he had not come in time she was frightened to think what they would have done to her ,she had always moved in cars and had been taken regularly to beauty saloons for grooming .She was also the owner of an enviable collection of doggy attire and jewels ,she was the trendiest bitch in the neighborhood and a pride of her mistress, she shivered in disgust as she looked at herself ,covered in muck from top to toe and smelling horrible, it was almost dusk and she was feeling very hungry and thirsty, there was no decent food or water in site, she sat near the road side dust bin watching an old woman wearing tattered clothes ramaging into the bin,she broght out a leg of chicken,she salivated at the mouth at the sight of the chicken leg,but she didn’t know how to get at it,Moti who gauged her intentions immediately jumped at the old woman,snatched the chicken leg from her hands leaving the old woman howling in pain nursing her bleeding hand.
She took the chicken leg from him ,and tears rolled down her cheeks as she daintly bit into the chicken,she who was the envy of every dog in the neighborhood had come down to this state where she had to eat from a dust bin,what degradation, what a fall and the worst was that she was living at the mercy of a mongrel,the dusk soon turned to night ,it got cold and she started shivering from cold and fear,but Moti covered her body with his own body to protect her from cold,suddenely she did not feel lost and alone any more she felt in her heart that this mongrel was her true friend and savior and thus began a beautiful friendship between the hoity-toity bitch and a mongrel
They woke up when the sun was shining right above them,feeling hungry they both started rummaging in the dust bin both were enjoyning themselves thoroughly as they kicked the dirt in the bin to find food for themselves and when they came upon something edible they both shared between themselves she had never enjoyed herself so much in all her life as she was doing today in the company of Moti
If her mistress were to see her she would have been greatly shocked,stomach full the two sat out to find their way home,as they rounded a corner,a ferocious looking dog was on the verge to pounce on them,she whimpered and her heart beat so fast she thought she would die,but Moti with great presence of mind adopted a distraction strategy, he threw a juicy bone which he had specially saved for her, further down the road, while the dog went to get it, the two made a quick gate away
It was a long, long walk, tongues hanging, puffing and panting the two plodded on- they were very thirsty but there was no sign of water any where around,suddenely they came upon a pool of dirty slushy water-slurp,slurp Moti drank the dirty water thirstily and she had no option but to follow suit ,suddenely they were surrounded by a couple of ruffian dogs who were eyeing her hungrily,Moti stood there watching their every move and growling angrily,but the dogs were closing on her without paying any heed to Moti,this time he growled as he had never growled before,the dogs faltered,he growled once again and seeing the mean look in his eyes,the dogs turned tail and made a quick gateaway,she realy admired his guts and looked at him with new respect in her eyes,Moti wished this respect could turn into love because he realy loved her too much,they walked on and on and soon they felt tired and exhausted they rested behind a bush and soon fell asleep,she saw a dream,a beautiful dream where she once again saw herself walking in the park along with her mistress and she had left her for a moment sniffing at a butterfly she had seen for the first time and her mistress ran after her shouting,”Julie,Julie come back”,she woke up with a start and she again heard her mistress calling her name,waging her tail and barking with joy she bounded out of the bushes right in front of her mistress/Seeing her, her mistress closed her nose with a dainty kerchief,”you smell awful,where have you been Julie?”,
Moti who had followed her looked at her with big sad eyes to wish her goodbye.Seeing him Julie’s mistress said,so you had eloped with this mongrel”,shoo.,shoo she tried to shoo him away.”we have to take her to a vet for a thorough physical check up before we give her entry in our house seeing her condition I am sure she has been upto no good”.she told her servant who was accompanying her,”now tie this new leash on her and let us take her home “.The servant did as she was told,but Julie struggled out of her hands and went to Moti they stood together rubbing their noses together and whining softly,the mistress understood that her beloved Julie had lost her heart to an ordinary street dog,but she would never let her adopt a street dog as her friend. Her friends would be totally scandalized if they would come to know about it,Moti knew that her snooty mistress would never allow her to befriend an ordinary street dog therefore he started walking away,Julie started following him,no way she was going to loose him,she was nolonger interested in obsencely fat and pampered dogs ,her mistress wanted her to befriend,she was interested in her hero,she did not mind living off dust bins and drinking from puddles but she would be with him come what may,the servant ran after her,picked her up and deposited her in the boot of the car and then the car sped away

When Moti reached home,God welcomed him back with a smile”you have had quite an adventure my boy,haven’t you”God cleaned him and fed him a bowl of warm milk and made him a soft bed to sleep
Julie in the meanwhile was taken to a vet and given a thorough checkup and given an anti-rabies injection,after being bathed and perfumed she was taken home, Julie was in a love struck phase and she lost her appetite and she started becoming thinner and thinner,her mistress was completely alarmed and she took her back to the vet,after checking her thoroughly the doctor proclaimed that Julie had fallen in love and if she was not united with her beloved she would pine away”yuck”,the mistress pronounced,” how can I allow my Julie to mate with a mongrel when there are so many pedigreed dogs just waiting to mate with her”
“love is an emotion that can never be under any ones control,be it a dog or a man,there is nothing you can do to stop falling in love,unrequited love makes you feel depressed and moody and it also makes you loose control over yourself,I advise you madam to let Julie mate with her beloved otherwise the consequences could be disasterous”,advised the doctor
“I donot mind losing her,but on no condition will I allow her to mate with a street dog ”,she said with finality.
“as you wish madam ,but don’t tell me afterwards I didn’t warn you”. said the doctor shrugging his shoulders

When Julie went for walk after a few days with her mistress to the park, her eyes started searching for Moti ,she saw him sitting on a bench along with his master, she immediately broke her leash and ran towards them, her mistress came running after her shouting her name but Julie unmindful of her mistresses shouts ,ran towards Moti and ,jumped on the bench besides him and sat with him, ,Moti who was over whelmed with love for his beloved started licking her face
“how dare you: ”,her mistress who had caught up with her screamed at Moti and gave him a loud thwack on his back, Moti fell down from the bench yelping in pain whilst Julie started barking wildly at her mistress” I will not allow this street dog to mate with my precious Julie, this pariah is trying to get chummy with my highly pedigreed dog,he neither has the appearance,nor the parentage to match my Julie,I will kill him if he does not leave her alone”,she spluttered in anger
“if it was not for this mongrel,this pariaha dog ,your Julie would have been torn to pieces by ferocious dogs who throng this area,you must be thankful to this street dog for bringing your pedigreed dog unharmed back to you in one piece” ,said God
With out giving a reply, she picked up the struggling Julie and strode towards her car .Moti ran after them followed by God, ”please allow them to be friends” ,God said catching up with her, ”love is a many splendor thing ,only a lucky few experience this emotion, these two have an intense feeling of deep fondness for each other,love is no crime,it is some thing that even the denizens of heaven want to experience,never come in the way of true love otherwise you will experience the curse of heaven upon yourself,love is divine,love is the natures power on you,no human has the right to come inbetween true lovers”
“I am sorry but I donot want my Julie to get physical with a mongrel,I have spent thousands of rupees on her and I want to get back the money spent on her this is my business,if she mates a pedigreed dog I will earn a hefty income by selling her offsprings”,she put Julie in the car and sped away

Moti went home in a highly depressed state,he did not want to live a life without his beloved,it was not his fault that he was born a street dog with no beauty and parentage.
God who was reading his mind said,”Moti although you have no pedigree still you are far,far better then all the pedigreed dogs in the world,you may not have outer beauty but you have a heart of gold,I will narrate to you a story-there was a very handsome stag who was very proud of his beauty then one day he happened to see his reflection in a lake,he saw his antlers and was very happy they were so beautiful then his eyes fell on his spindly legs and he became very sad and unhappy,he wanted to hide them in shame,just then a hunters arrow whizzed by,the stag bounded in the woods,but his antlers got caught in the branches of a tree,with great difficulty he freed his antlers from the tree and ran for his life,if it was not for his spindly legs who carried him at great speed,he would have been caught and killed by the hunter,the moral of the story is that instead of being ashamed of your looks you should be proud of them because your looks saved Julie from harm
It is your big and hefty body and ferocious appearance which made other dogs run away from your sight”,God said patting him on the head.Seeing that his depression had not lifted one bit,God continued”I assure you my boy that one day Julie will be yours,true love always wins in the end because it has Gods blessings”.

Julie was now confined to the house and forcibly twice she was made to mate with pedigreed dogs and twice she gave birth to a handsome litter of pups and her mistress earned a handsome amount by selling her pups,giving birth in quick succession affected her health.doctor warned her mistress if Julie was once again mated she would lose her life,but her mistress wanted more and more money and without heeding the doctors warning,she was impregnated again,this third pregnancy made her extremely weak,she could not even stand on legs her and after giving birth to the pups she became extremely sick,since she was nolonger of any use to her mistress,she threw her out on the streets, Julie lived on the streets eating from the dust bins lining the street,to keep herself from street dogs she hid herself in a dry nullaha running by the side of the road,one day Moti was passing by that road with God when Julie saw him from the safety of the nullaha she barked softly and Moti who recognized her voice turned his face and saw her, immediately he ran towards her and she jumped out,seeimng her condition,tears rolled down from his eyes,she had become a shadow of herself,he started licking her all over ”okay Moti enough of your public display,let us go home now”God said smilingly,the two lovers followed God happy in the happiness of being together at last
